Alliant Energy Corporation is a regulated, investor-owned public utility holding company providing regulated electric and natural gas service to approximately 1 million electric and 420,000 natural gas customers in Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Alliant Energy Scholarships are to encourage students to enroll in the Powerline and/or Powerline Technology programs at Northwest Iowa Community College. The scholarship funds will be split equally between two semesters of study and may be used for tuition and books. Preference will be given to minorities or under-represented groups within the student population, to women in a non-traditional area of study, and to students showing financial need. The Associated General Contractors of Iowa Heavy Equipment Scholarships support the achievements of students enrolled in the Northwest Iowa Community College Heavy Equipment program. Two scholarships will be awarded to eligible students after the first fall semester is completed and will be applied to their first year spring semester. Proceeds will be used for tuition, fees, books,
and equipment. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Demonstrate good work habits and leadership qualities as evaluated by the heavy equipment faculty.
• Attain a high level of academic achievement as determined by their cumulative grade point average.

AWS Foundation Scholarship*
Number of scholarships awarded varies—$500 to $1,000
Awarded to students enrolled in a welding-related educational or training program. Applicant must be a high school graduate or possess a GED equivalent. The school must be located in the United States or its territories. Financial need is not required to qualify.
 
Each award is an average of $500–$1,000 and is granted on an annual basis. Awards are selected at the District level, based on the quantity and quality of the applicants. The application deadline is March 1, for the following fall term. Funding is made available June 1–May 31.

Bill Franey Memorial Powerline Scholarship*
1—$500 scholarship granted; Full time student 
The Bill Franey Memorial Powerline Scholarship was established in memory of Bill Franey. Bill began his career with the Greene County REC which later became Midland Power Cooperative. He worked for the Cooperative for 30 years starting as an apprentice lineman, a journeyman/lineman, a foreman and for the last ten years of his career he served as line superintendent. He retired after 41 years with the Cooperative. The memorial has been established by Bill’s wife, Shirley Franey, and their son and his wife, Mike and Lynda Franey. Scholarship proceeds will be used for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Must be a registered student in good standing in the first year of the Powerline or Powerline Technology program.
• Must have attained high academic achievement, as determined by cumulative grade point average in the Powerline program.
• Must have demonstrated good work habits and leadership qualities as evaluated by the instructional staff.
• Must have a good record of class attendance.
• Must have completed one semester before the scholarship is awarded.

The Bryan Cowan Memorial Scholarship has been established by his family to support education in the trade/technical field. Mr. Cowan was a lifetime farmer who enjoyed working with his hands, building and repairing things. This scholarship will be split between the fall and spring semesters and may be used for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1) Must have applied and been accepted into the Welding or General Machining program.
2) Must be a high school graduate or completed their GED.
3) Must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point while enrolled in the program.

Consumers Energy of Marshalltown, Iowa has established these scholarships to assist students pursuing a post-secondary education in an electric utility lineworker program. A scholarship committee will evaluate all applications and personally interview the finalists in Marshalltown. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1) Have applied and been accepted into the Powerline or Powerline Technology program (or show proof they are on a waiting list)
2) Preference will be given to Consumer Energy members in Iowa.
3) Student must start school within 12 months of the application deadline.
4) Answer the following two questions.
      (a) What are the reasons for pursuing a career as an electric utility lineworker? Who, if anyone, has inspired you to pursue such a career.
      (b) Explain the role that rural electric cooperatives play in your community.

Corn Belt Power Cooperative Scholarship*

Committed to the communities it serves, Corn Belt Power Cooperative partners with Northwest Iowa Community College to offer scholarship opportunities to students who reside in a county served by a cooperative in the Corn Belt Power system. Corn Belt Power is interested in maintaining a skilled and educated workforce to serve its members well into the future. Recipients may be either first or second year students, but are eligible for only one scholarship. Each scholarship will be split equally between the first two semesters of enrollment after receiving the scholarship. Scholarship proceeds will be used for tuition, fees, and books. This scholarship was established in memory of Dan. He owned Gibbon's Contracting in Sanborn. Dan was injured on November 12, 2008 and passed away on December 1 that same year. Carpentry/Construction was his passion in life; he took great pride in his work. Proceeds from this scholarship will be divided between the spring semester and summer terms. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be a registered student in the Carpentry or Construction Technology program.
• Demonstrate a strong desire to remain in the carpentry or construction business as a life-long career.

Edward Archer Memorial/MP&W Powerline Scholarship
1—$500 scholarship granted; Full or part time student
The Edward Archer Memorial/MP&W Powerline Scholarship was established in memory of Ed Archer. Ed graduated from the Northwest Iowa Technical College Powerline Program in 1970. He had a good career from the training received through the Powerline Program, lineman apprenticeship, and ongoing training in the trade. Throughout his 37-year career, he worked as a lineman, electric crew foreman, electric superintendent, and system operator. Ed started with Muscatine Power and Water in 1988 as a Lineman. He worked in that position for 9 years before spending the last 10 years of his career as a System Operator, where he worked closely with both Generation and Transmission & Distribution. This memorial has been established by Ed’s wife, Kathy Archer, and Muscatine Power and Water to promote the lineman trade and assist students preparing for a career in this field. Scholarship proceeds will be used for tuition, fees, and books and applied to the student’s fall and spring semester tuition. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

The Elmer J. Steuck Memorial Scholarship is to support students who will be enrolled in the Heavy Equipment or Truck and Diesel programs at Northwest Iowa Community College. This scholarship has been established by Lu Vella C. Burnett from Primghar, Iowa in memory of her brother Elmer who passed away on April 8, 2004. Elmer farmed for over 60 years in the Primghar area. Elmer was a World War II Veteran and served as an Army nurse in a field hospital. Proceeds will be split equally between the fall and spring semester of study and will be utilized for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Must be enrolled in either the Heavy Equipment Operation & Maintenance or Truck & Diesel Technology program.
• Must have achieved a 2.0 cumulative grade point average in high school or currently have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average at Northwest Iowa Community College.

Lems Auto Recyclers was started in 1947, and they currently operate in their original location in Doon, Iowa. Proceeds will be utilized for tuition, fees, or books and will be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

The Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative is a private, non-profit electric utility owned by the members it serves. It ws organized in 1935 and is headquartered in Anamosa, Iowa. These scholarships have been established to encourage students from their service area to pursue training in the Powerline or Powerline Technology curriculum. Proceeds may be utilized for tuition, fees, or books. Students may be eligible for up to two calendar years. No students shall receive more than two scholarships regardless of their length of their study at NCC. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Must have applied and been accepted into the Powerline or Powerline Technology program.
• Must live in Jones, Jackson, Delaware, or Dubuque counties OR their parents/guardians must be members of the Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative.

Mel Marcotte Memorial Powerline Scholarship*

This scholarship was established in memory of Mel Marcotte. Mel was an instructor at Northwest Iowa Community College from 1967 to 1990. Mel was instrumental in creating the Powerline Program at Northwest Iowa Community College and was the first instructor. Mel passed away in 2005. An endowment has been set up at Northwest Iowa Community College for scholarship purposes through funds from former students, industry leaders, Powerline program funds, current Powerline instructors, and Mel’s children. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Must be a registered student in good standing in the first year of the Powerline program.
• Must have attained high academic achievement, as determined by cumulative grade point average in the Powerline program.
• Must have demonstrated good work habits and leadership qualities as evaluated by the instructional staff.

Midland Power Cooperative, Jefferson, Iowa, is interested in maintaining a skilled and educated workforce; therefore, it has established a scholarship to assist students pursuing a post-secondary education in an electric utility lineworker program. A scholarship committee will evaluate all applications. The Scholarship will be applied at the beginning of the student's second semester. The Powerline Scholarship has been endowed by the electrical power industry. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Ron Vollink Construction Trades Scholarship*
1—$500 scholarship granted; full time student
The Ron Vollink Construction Trades Scholarship recognizes the instructional accomplishments of Ron Vollink, Northwest Iowa Community College Carpentry Instructor from 1987 to 1998. This scholarship is to encourage excellence in the carpentry trade. The scholarship will be applied to the student’s spring semester tuition. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be a registered student in good standing in the first semester of the Carpentry or Construction Trades program.
• Exhibit good class attendance.
• Demonstrate good work habits and leadership qualities as evaluated by the instructional staff.
• Demonstrate a strong desire to succeed.
• Must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
• Submit a letter of reference from an instructor or employer, which should address the applicant’s potential for success in the carpentry trade.

1 — $500 scholarship granted; full time student
The S2 Computer Solutions, Inc. Scholarship is to recognize students who exhibit a desire to succeed in the Computer Science and Networking Technology program at Northwest Iowa Community College and demonstrate potential for future success in the profession. Proceeds will be split equally between the fall and spring semesters of study and will be utilized for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be enrolled in their first year of the Computer Science and Networking Technology program.
• Must hold a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average in the first year of the program and maintain a 2.5 GPA during their second year.
• Must have record of good class attendance
• Submit an essay, not to exceed 500 words, which should address the applicants past educational success, and reasons for pursuing a career in computer science or networking
technology.

Skills USA Scholarship
Amount: Gold Medalist $500; Silver Medalist $300; Bronze Medalist $200; Full time students
The Northwest Iowa Community College Skills USA Scholarship is to recognize the achievements of Iowa high school students who have experienced success at the Iowa Skills USA competition prior to their enrollment in any program of study at Northwest Iowa Community College. The Skills USA Scholarship will be awarded to Iowa high school graduates who have participated in a competition at the state level and received a gold, silver or bronze medal. Students must send a copy of their certificate with the scholarship application. In the case where a student has received multiple awards throughout his/her high school career, total scholarship will not exceed $500. High school students are not eligible for this award if they are dual enrolled in JA or PSEO classes. They will be eligible for this scholarship if they choose to attend NCC as a full-time student in the fall or spring semester after graduation from high school.

Scholarships range from $1,000–$5,000
Students pursuing careers in machining technology and manufacturing technology will have two new scholarships available through the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation. The Gene Haas Foundation Machining Technology Scholarship and Manufacturing Technology Scholarship are two additional opportunities provided by the SME Foundation. Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Spencer Chapter 226 Scholarship
1—Dollar amount varies; Full or part time students
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Spencer Chapter 226 Scholarship supports the achievements of a student enrolling in a manufacturing related profession. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• A current resident of SME Chapter 226’s membership area.
• A current high school senior.
• Possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Enroll in a manufacturing related program at NCC including Engineering Drafting/CAD, Welding, General Machining, and Computerized Manufacturing Technology.
• Provide a completed application packet. Contact the NCC Foundation office for a SME application packet.

Tecton Scholarship*
2—$500 scholarships granted; Full time students
The Tecton Scholarships are to encourage individuals to pursue opportunities in the General Machining or Computerized Manufacturing Technology programs offered through Northwest Iowa Community College. Tecton Industries, Inc. is a subcontract machine shop with two locations in Spencer, Iowa. The employees of Tecton established this scholarship to recognize the contribution of their employers, Bruce & LuAnn Tamisiea, to the machining industry. Scholarship proceeds will be split equally between two semesters and may be utilized for tuition, fees, and books. Preference will be given to Iowa residents. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Accepted in the General Machining or Computerized Manufacturing Technology program at Northwest Iowa Community College.
• Achieve a high school grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Maintain a 2.0 minimum cumulative grade point average; eligibility shall be reviewed each semester.
• Submit a letter of reference from a high school instructor, guidance counselor, or current employer with their application. This reference should address the applicants’ potential for success in the program chosen at enrollment.

The Vander Haag’s, Inc. Truck & Diesel Scholarships were established to encourage and assist students to become truck and diesel technicians. Vander Haag’s, Inc. was founded in 1939 and operates truck and parts sales/repair facilities in Spencer, Des Moines, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Proceeds will be split equally between the fall and spring semester and will be utilized for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Must have completed the Automotive Service program.
• Must be enrolled in the Truck & Diesel Technology program.
• Must have demonstrated exemplary work habits, a positive attitude, and excellent attendance.
