3—$2,500 scholarships granted; Full time students

The Alpha Evenson Memorial Nursing Scholarships are to support students who have successfully completed the Practical Nursing program and will be enrolling in the Associate Degree Nursing program. Proceeds will be split equally between two semesters of study and may be used for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Have successfully completed the Practical Nursing program and will be starting the Associate Degree Nursing program.
• Display strong character and future potential in the nursing profession.
• Have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average from their current coursework at Northwest Iowa Community College.
• Maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
• Exhibit financial need based on the EFC.

1—$500 scholarship granted; Full time student

Almost every family has been touched by cancer in some way. The American Cancer Society Health Scholarship is to recognize students with a sincere passion for a healthcare career. Proceeds will be split equally between two semesters of study and may be utilized for tuition, fees, and books. Preference may be given if the applicant or an immediate family member of the applicant has been diagnosed with cancer. Applicants must meet the following requirement:
• Be enrolled in the Pre-Practical Nursing, Practical Nursing, Extended Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, Pre- Radiologic Technology, Radiologic Technology, or Health Information Technology program.
• Must be a current resident of the Northwest Iowa Community College District.
• Must have achieved a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in high school or currently have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average at Northwest Iowa Community College.
• Must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
• Submit an essay, which should address the applicant’s potential for success in their chosen healthcare program. In the essay, indicate if the applicant or an immediate family member has ever been diagnosed with cancer and how it has impacted his/her life.

Avera McKennan Resources for Careers in Health (ARCH) Scholarship*
Number of scholarships awarded varies—$2,500/semester; Full time students

The goal of the ARCH program is to develop an early affiliation with students and provide career opportunities at Avera McKennan Hospital, with affiliate hospitals in Rock Valley, Sioux Center, Sibley, LeMars, Spencer, and Estherville while providing financial assistance to students pursuing an Associate Degree Nursing degree. NEW! Beda Sampson Scholarship*
1—$500 scholarship granted; Full or part time students

The Beda Sampson Scholarship is provided by the Hannah Marie Foundation* sponsored by the Hannah Marie Country Inn, Spencer, Iowa. The Scholarship's purpose is to improve employment skills by encouraging non-traditional students to pursue careers in health care. Proceeds will be split equally between two terms of study and may be used for tuition, fees, or books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Be enrolled in the Pre-Practical Nursing, Practical Nursing, Extended Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, Pre-Radiologic Technology, Radiologic Technology, or Health Information Technology program.
2. Must be 25 years or older.
3. Preference will be given to a resident of Clay County, Iowa.
4. Applicants must not be an employee or relative of the Hannah Marie Foundation Board, Hannah Marie Country Inn, the Nichols’ family, or the selection committee.
5. Answer the following three questions following proper rules of punctuation and grammar. Each question should be answered in fewer than 100 words.
     a. Tell about yourself and what led you to continuing your education in the health field.
     b. In what educational program are you enrolled in at NCC and why did you choose this program?
     c. What are you employment goals upon graduation?

Emma R. Miller Scholarship

The purpose of the Emma R. Miller Scholarships are to encourage individuals who are registered as Certified Nursing Assistants within the College district to pursue a career in nursing by enrolling in the Associate Degree Nursing program at Northwest Iowa Community College. The scholarship will be split equally between semesters, not to exceed four. Scholarship proceeds will be utilized for tuition, fees, and books. NCC President’s and Academic Achievement Scholarship recipients will be excluded from consideration. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be registered as a Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA)
• Be enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program at Northwest Iowa Community College on a full or half time basis.
• Achieve a high school grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale.
• Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average; eligibility shall be reviewed each semester.
• Submit a narrative that follows the rules of proper punctuation and grammar discussing his/her community or extracurricular involvement, their reason/s for pursuing a nursing degree, and reference any previous work experience.

?The Hartley Community Memorial Health Center Scholarships will be awarded annually to encourage current students to pursue nursing as a career in long-term care. Proceeds will be utilized for tuition, fees, and books; $600 will be distributed towards the spring semester and $400 towards the summer term. NCC President’s and Academic Achievement Scholarship recipients will be excluded from consideration. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be enrolled in the Pre-Practical Nursing, Practical Nursing, Extended Practical Nursing, or Associate Degree Nursing program.
• Achieve a high school grade point of 2.0.
• Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point of 2.0.
• Reside within 20 miles of Hartley, Iowa.
• Submit a narrative that addresses the applicant’s community or extracurricular involvement, reasons for pursuing a nursing career, and previous work experience in a health related field.

The purpose of the Lu Vella C. Burnett Health Scholarship is to recognize individuals who have a sincere passion for the healthcare profession and have the potential to become an exceptional healthcare employee. This scholarship has been established by Lu Vella C. Burnett from Primghar, Iowa. Lu Vella worked as a teacher for many years in St. Joseph, Missouri and retired in 1983. Lu Vella has a love for education and a desire to help support students so they can be successful in furthering their education. Proceeds will be split equally between two semesters of study. Scholarship proceeds will be utilized for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be enrolled in the Pre-Practical Nursing, Practical Nursing, Extended Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, Pre- Radiologic Technology, Radiologic Technology, or Health Information Technology program.
• Must have achieved a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in high school or currently have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average at Northwest Iowa Community College.

• Submit a letter of reference from a high school instructor, college instructor, or current employer, which should address the applicant’s potential for success in their chosen healthcare program.

The Marcia Tracy Memorial Nursing Scholarship is to recognize individuals who have a sincere passion for the nursing profession and have the potential to become an exceptional nurse. Proceeds will be split equally between the first two semesters of study. Proceeds will be used for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Must have successfully completed the Practical Nursing program and will be enrolling in the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
• Must have achieved a 2.5 cumulative grade point average through their first semester of study at Northwest Iowa Community College.
• Must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
• Submit a written narrative that addresses the qualities the applicant believes they have that will make them both a passionate and compassionate nursing professional. Also, the applicant should reference any previous work experience within the health care field.

The Orange City Health System Scholarships are to encourage individuals in the community college district to pursue health related careers. Proceeds will be used for tuition and fees. Preference will be given to the immediate dependents of the Orange City Health System. NCC President’s and Academic Achievement Scholarship recipients will be excluded from consideration. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be enrolled in the Pre-Practical Nursing, Practical Nursing, Extended Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, Health Information Technology, Pre-Radiologic Technology or Radiologic Technology program.
• Achieve a high school grade point of 3.0.
• Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

The Osceola Community Hospital Scholarships are to encourage individuals within the community college district to pursue health related careers by enrolling in programs offered through NCC that emphasize health occupations and hospital operations. Proceeds will be used for tuition, fees, and books. Two scholarships will be awarded for the fall and spring semester and one scholarship will be awarded for the spring semester and summer term. Preference will be given to Sibley-Ocheyedan High School graduates. NCC President’s and Academic Achievement Scholarship recipients will be excluded from consideration. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be enrolled in Pre-Practical Nursing, Practical Nursing, Extended Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, Health Information Technology, Paramedic, Pre-Radiologic Technology, Radiologic Technology, Accounting, Administrative Secretarial, Administrative Office Management, Computer Science & Networking Technology, or Industrial & Commercial Wiring.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average.

Proceeds will be used for tuition and fees. Two scholarships will be awarded for the fall and spring semester and two scholarships will be awarded for the spring semester and summer term. Preference will be given to the immediate dependents of the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center employees and/or the greater Sioux Center area. NCC President’s and Academic Achievement Scholarship recipients will be excluded from consideration. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be enrolled in the Pre-Practical Nursing, Practical Nursing, Extended Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, Health Information Technology, Pre-Radiologic Technology, or Radiologic Technology program.
